Film producers in Nakuru have backed the Government’s policy and directive which demands local broadcasting houses to increase their transmission ratio of local content from 40 percent to 60 percent.
Addressing Film and Studio Producers Association members the group chairman, John Gitonga, said this will help to promote Kenyan culture.
Gitonga urged the government to stick to the directive and punish those who fail to honour the policy.
He observed that foreign content in the local broadcasting industry was to blame for the erosion of African cultures among Kenyan youths.
“Western lifestyle is threatening our culture especially among young people. The government need to mitigate the issue at all costs,” says Gitonga.
Gitonga further noted that local film makers are much talented and need to make good use of their talents.
“ We have potential to contribute the 60 percent but these foreign materials have robbed us that opportunity, hence eroding our culture,” said Gitonga.
Gitonga urged members of public to embrace local talents.
