The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has promised to support the growth of the film industry in the country.KFCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezekiel Mutua underscored the board’s desire to make the local film industry reach international standards.Mutua said KFCB will be supporting arts and culture initiatives which will place culture and creativity at the heart of public policy.“KFCB with the support of stakeholders wants to make Kenya a beacon of cultural creativity to the world,” said Mutua when he toured RaiaTV offices in Mombasa on Saturday.He emphasized on the significant potential for growth that exists in the sector if well harnessed.“If properly supported the film industry would be supplementing the government’s efforts of creating jobs for the local people,” he added.Mutua said KFCB will support all programs that are aimed at capacity building towards the development of local film producers.He said the board regards culture as one of the resources for national growth and pointed out the ‘Cinema Mashinani project’ which he said is one the strategies aimed at promoting the diverse Kenyan heritage.The KFCB boss said the Cinema Mashinani project will go round the country to harness the power of storytelling by local communities and bring such stories to life on screen.His sentiments were echoed by Joseph Mucheru of Media Vision Ltd who said the film industry is going through exciting times and rooted for indigenous productions.“With the right environment Kenya has the potential to become a global leader in film and media production,” he said.
