Renowned lawyer and Siaya senator, James Orengo, has finally broken his silence after what appeared to be humiliation by Raila Odinga over his claims that the veteran opposition leader would be on the ballot in 2022.
Mr Odinga, in a statement to the press, hit out at those saying that he would be on the ballot in the next presidential election, maintaining that his focus would be on healing the nation.
Orengo clarified that his remarks in Migori on the prospect of an Odinga presidential bid was a personal position and not that of the NASA principal.
''I think what I said in Migori, Raila should be kept out of it. Those were my personal opinions and with regard to the process that they initiated with the president, it is clear that it was not anchored on the year 2022. They urged the country not to bring in the issue of 2022 other than dialogue,'' Mr Orengo said.
Senator Orengo spoke Monday in an interview with a mainstream television station a day after Raila contradicted him.
There have been fears that 2022 presidential politics could undermine the progress made after the dramatic handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
