Mr Wycliffe Omucheyi, acting as the union's interim chairman, called on Mr Sossion to withdraw cases he had filed against the union.

A faction within Knut had openly plotted and called for Sossion's ouster, saying that he could not manage two jobs after being nominated as an MP.

On his part, Sossion had maintained that his newfound job was beneficial to teachers across the country as he could now better articulate their issue.

The dramatic decision comes back on the heels of a National Executive gathering.

This development brings to an end to a long-running saga that threatened to cripple the union's operations.

Two weeks ago, Sossion was shocked to find burly men at the Knut headquarters who prevented him from accessing his office.
