The commander-in-chief warned against plunging the country into the politics of 2022, saying there was a greater need to focus on developing the country.

''We don't want to see politicians coming here to set us up against each other. I will not tire saying this: 2022 will come. Now it is time to focus on working for the people. Do you want politics or work?'' The president said.

This comes amid speculation on who he will support in the 2022 presidential election.

Uhuru said that there were pressing matters that the country needed to deal with instead of engaging in senseless politics.

His dramatic handshake with his archnemesis veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga has spawned great unease in DP Ruto's camp fearful that it could damage his 2022 prospects.
