A section of Nakuru residents is calling for investigations into recent cases of  theft of gas cylinders.

The residents claim that it has become a norm for thieves to break into houses and only take the cylinders.

In Molo on Tuesday, armed gangsters broke into a petrol station and made away with 14 refilled cylinders, 14 empty cylinders, 32 burners and three 20-litre jerricans of fuel, all worth over Sh200,000.

Confirming the incident, Molo OCPD Joseph Lesinkwa said that they also made away with an unknown amount in cash.

In Pipeline area, residents claim there has been a number of break-ins with the thieves making away with gas cylinders only.

Approximately 22 houses have been broken into in the area in the last three weeks, the residents claim.

"It seems they have a ready market for them and we would like to know where they are taken. The police are not doing enough to follow up on the incidences," said Esther Njeri who lives in Pipeline area.

In Flamingo on Monday night, thieves broke into six houses making away with five gas cylinders.

A victim, Elijah Kinyanjui, who lives in Langalanga estate, also lost his cylinder to thieves on the same night.

“The laxity of the police officers to sit and trace where the demand for this product is, has baffled us. We want an explanation as to where they end up,” he added.
