The increase in the number of public chartered universities has resulted to a lot of Kenyans accessing higher education like never before.

According to the 2016 Economic Survey released by KNBS, enrolment in public universities is expected to increase by 16.1 percent from 363,334 in 2014/15 to 421,783 in 2015/16. This is a very nice indication that we are heading in the right direction as a country.

Kisii University is among the public universities that were chartered three years ago. The university was chartered on 2013 and since then, it has continued to grow impressively.

The growth is evident from the amount of intakes which has continued to grow since 2013 when it became a fully-fledged university. Compared to the other universities that were chartered the same period, Kisii University tops in the total number of students that it admitted for various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

It has 13 campuses across the country and offers close to 74 undergraduate degree courses and many certificates, diploma, and postgraduate degree programs and it is set to open a constituent college in one of the counties in Kenya.

It is the only developing university that offers law and medicine programmes and has the best doctors and professors. The infrastructure in the university is extremely impressive and at this rate, in close to five years to come, it will outdo older universities like UoN and KU.

The university has grown drastically and offered employment to many people around the country. People are now able to access higher education at an affordable cost.

It has also ventured in scientific innovation and research which is aimed at assisting the country to realise its development agenda.

Am not saying that other universities are not growing but the rate at which Kisii University is growing is superbly impressive and other universities need to benchmark and see what the university is doing.
