The 6.30pm incidents gutted the store of the church, which is said to have contained all the musical instruments the church had purchased including speakers, and other properties like cupboards, and iron sheets.

The fire spread further to the church hall, and consumed sections of the church alter in the evening before the residents could access the premises.

Confirming the incident, Ngoleni area assistant chief Jackline Mutunga stated that the cause of the fire is being investigated.

“The residents were alerted by neighbours living around the church, after noticing big flames and smoke emerging from the church premises,” said Mutunga.

“The roof of the store was burned to ashes together with everything in the store, the fire also burnt half of the churches alter and many plastic seats that had been arranged at the front of the church,” added Mutunga

The chief stated that the cause of the fire is still unkown and strange to the residents, as the church has not yet been supplied with electricity.

However, the church members suggested that it might have been a generator in the store that could have overheat and burst out in flame,  since the fire began in the store room.

The residents salvaged the situation and put out the fire before the police officers arrived.

Officers from Kakutha police post have launched an investigation on the cause of the fire, and have confirmed that no one was injured in the fire incident.
