Property of an unknown value was on Wednesday reduced to ashes in Visio Ward, Rongai Sub-County after a fierce fire outbreak.

The morning fire razed down a residential building leaving residents homeless.

Effort by eyewitnesses to put off the fire failed due to lack of firefighting equipment and strong wind.

Beatrice Wambui, an eyewitness, said the fire started from one room of the ill-fated building before spreading to the rest.

“When I saw the flames, I immediately rushed out, fearing for my life,” said Wambui.

Confirming the incident, Rongai OCS Sheilla Kegode said that no casualty was reported although properties worth thousands were destroyed.

“We are yet to establish the cause of fire but we suspect it was caused by electrical fault,” said Kegode.

She blamed illegal connections of electrical wires in the residential building and urged residents to stop the habit.

She further urged landlords to make regular inspections to their building to ensure there are no illegal electrical connections.

The fire comes barely a day after another fire consumed a rental house in Pipeline Estate, Nakuru.
