The fierce fire is said to have broke at 10:00am on Tuesday morning after an electric fault in one of the yards.

According to the workers who were at the scene, they heard a blast from one of the yards then immediately the fire started.

They said that the fire was spreading so fast to the timber stores and they were forced to run for their lives.

“The fire was spreading so fast and almost catching us during our trial of putting it off with extinguishers but we could not,” said Marcus Ochieng.

There were more than 50 labourers who worked at the timber yard.

Henry Anzoka, a worker at the timber yard said that it took more than 30 minutes before they got response from private fire extinguishers.

The resident living around and the businessmen said that county government of Nakuru failed to respond immediately after the call.

In February last year, a fire razed down a fuel go-down at the same premises leading to its closure.

During that incident, Nakuru county Governor, Kinuthia Mbugua who visited the site promised acquisition of fire engine in each sub-county to cub the extend of property destruction
