Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed when a fire consumed a dormitory at Kilgoris Girls High School in Trans Mara West, Narok County.

Jane Tialal, the school’s principal said the cause of the fire still remains unknown.

However, Ms Tialal said they cannot rule out an electrical fault as the possible cause of the fire.

“No one was inside the dormitory when the fire broke out, which makes us suspect that an electric fault had occasioned the fire,’ said Ms Tialal.

“There should, however, be no cause for alarm because all students were in their classrooms at the time the fire broke out,” she went on.

“However, a lot of students’ belonging, including mattresses, boxes and stationery were burnt to ashes.”

Parents and Teachers Association Chairman Caleb Kapario thanked the police and neighbours for responding swiftly to tackle the blaze, which could have caused more serious damage.

“Had it not been for neighbours, teachers and the police, who immediately swung into action, the fire could possibly have [burnt] other buildings causing more damage,’ said Mr Kapario
