Property of unknown value was destroyed when a fire razed down several residential houses at Soitaran shopping centre in Kuresoi South sub-county.

According to residents, the fire might have started as a result of an electric fault on Tuesday.

Residents came in to help put out the fire but their efforts were fruitless as the fire could not be contained.

"We did our best to help contain the fire but It proved hard for us. We were only using buckets and tree branches which were inefficient," said Ben Towett.

The residents are calling upon the county government of Nakuru to provide a fire engine for the sub-county to help avert such incidents in the future.
