Several houses in Getembe area, Kisii Estate were razed by fire on Wednesday afternoon. Mr James Kombo, a resident said that the fire started from one of the houses. "We were eating lunch in the house when the incident occurred. We rushed outside and started putting off the fire," he said. Kisii police commander Mr Hassan Abdi said that investigations on the cause of the fire have been launched.
"We shall find out what was the cause of the fire. It's quite unfortunate that it happened at a time when Kenyans are in celebration mood," he said.
Residents also raised concern over the delayed response by the Kisii County fire brigade.
Julius Tinega the Director Disaster management, however, said that they were headed to the scene. "Hopefully everything will be put under control, " he said.
