A middle-aged woman was forced to spend a night in the cold after fire razed down her rental house in Athi River town on Friday evening.
Wimar Mbuu, single mother of two said she lost property of unknown value to the fire that broke out at her rental house in Site Estate at 8.30 pm on fateful day.
Mbuu said she did not know what caused the fire since she was asleep in her bedroom when the incident occurred.
“I was deep asleep with my two children when I felt difficulty in breathing. I thought I was dreaming before I inhaled smoke and ran out of the house with the children, the two-year-old one in my arms,” said Mbuu.
The woman who spoke to the-Star outside her premises same night said they went to bed early since there was power blackout in the town.
Mbuu said she lost all her valuables which were in the bedroom where the fire started.
Neighbors who responded to her alarm helped put out the fire by pouring water into the bedroom that was in flames.
Mavoko sub-county fire brigade contained the fire preventing it from spreading into the neighboring houses.
The region’s fire brigade supervisor Duncan Kamatu said the premises were out of danger.
Kamatu said they suspect the inferno was caused by electric fault since it reportedly happened immediately electricity returned after a long evening’s black out.
