Residents of Turi farm in Elburgon, Molo constituency in Nakuru County are counting losses after fire broke out on Monday and razed down business premises and property worth Sh500,000.

According to the residents, nothing was rescued because the fire flames spread too fast.

“We noticed fire from a nearby shop and later spread too fast to other structures razing down all property,” said Mary Njeri, a trader in the area.

Njeri accused county firefighters for taking too long to respond after an alarm was raised.

“Firefighters from Nakuru County arrived at the scene several hours later after we raised alarm. Governor Lee Kinyanjui should do something to save us from losing property when fire outbreak is reported,” she said.

James Kariuki urged the county government to allocate a fire engine to each sub county to help in putting off fires.

The cause of fire is still unknown and no causalities reported.
