More than 40 small scale traders in Suneka town are counting losses after a fierce fire razed down their premises early Monday morning.

According to eye witnesses, the fire is said to have started from a barber shop and spread to the rest of the shops near the area and destroyed property worth millions of shillings.

Area MCA Nyaituga Mosiria who was at the scene said the fire started at around 10 am and quickly spread to other business structures made of timber with ease, and it was uncontrollable at the beginning by the residents and business owners.

He said that fire fighters from Suneka Sub County and Kisii county government responded quickly and managed to contain the fire with the assistance of members of the public.

the MCA further confirmed that that no one was injured during the incident, as security personnel managed to evacuate residents, adding that as the local leadership, they will liaise with the county government to see how the affected people can be assisted.

He called on well-wishers to assist the affected traders because some had their property looted, and told those who might have stolen property to surrender the same, adding that police have launched investigations.
