Fire safety awareness and community talk that started on Monday is picking up well in the slum.
The awareness was started by Red Cross to sensitise Kibera constituents on the need to take precaution and prevent the several fire incidences that have been experienced in Kibera in the last few months.
The event today took place at Kibera Academy Grounds where residents were advised on how they should contain a fire in case it broke out.
"You should be ready at any given time to contain the fire. Loss of property and lives caused by fire should not be incurred at all cost. In case a fire broke out, as residents, we should show unity by containing the fire as a community," said Linus Omondi, a resident.
Thomas Bwire, a Red Cross official, urged residents to adhere to the simple rules when it comes to power sockets and electricity connections.
"Most fires have been caused due to poor electricity connections. Residents should avoid connecting wires manually instead electricians with relevant skills should be hired to do the connections to save property and lives. It is our hope that the awareness programme will bear fruit to Kibera people," he noted.
