The fire scare at the Prosperity Building in Kisumu town has been contained. Witnesses say that there was smoke on the fourth floor of the building that also serves as Kisumu County headquarters on Tuesday morning.The incident was immediately contained. Nobody was injured during the incident. No property was destroyed. Kisumu County deputy governor Dr. Mathews Owili assured residents and County government staff of their safety.“Today morning, there was a report of fire scare at the Prosperity building. The scare was promptly dealt with and the building is now safe for occupation,” he assured.Reports indicate that the scare might have been caused by an electric fault. Investigations are however still on.The Building is divided into wing A, B and C. The building is safe for occupation in all the wings but electricity has been put off in wing C in order to isolate it from the main power source.Prosperity is the tallest building in Kisumu. It is located next to the Central Bank Kisumu branch, and opposite Nyanza regional headquarters.The building houses key government offices, among them all the Kisumu County government offices, Immigration department and the birth and death registration offices.
