Ruto on Friday hosted several politicians at his home in Uasin Gishu, a move leaders from the opposition do not support. Raila, who is also the NASA Presidential candidate, said that the Deputy President is taking this nation back to the days of former President Daniel Toroitich Arapa Moi.
The opposition’s torchbearer, who was speaking in Kisii County, said that is not right for leaders to hold meetings in their homes as we head to the polls.
“Why do you have to discuss development in someone’s home? Just tell him you brought your stomachs,” Mr Odinga said yesterday, as quoted by Nation.
On his part, Ruto dismisses Raila over the matter, arguing that he has sensed defeat before the August General polls. He argued that Raila has no mandate to criminalize leaders from any corners of this country as he seeks to ascend to power.
“I will continue meeting Kenyans. Those opposing my meetings have sensed they were losing supporters to Jubilee. No reasonable leader who believes in democracy would like to criminalize meeting of Kenyans in any part of the country,” said Mr Ruto.
This is not the first time Ruto and Raila have differed over various issues since Jubilee took over leadership following the last general elections.
