Kiambu Governor William Kabogo wants leaders who perpetuate hate speech to be dealt with accordingly.

The Kiambu governor who spoke when he hosted Kikuyu Council of Elders asked the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to crack the whip on hate mongers, adding that hate speech was a serious threat to peace.

“Hate speech and incitement caused loss of lives and destruction of property in 2007/2008 and that the same should not be allowed to happen again,” he said.

The Kiambu Governor noted that some politicians were using hate speech for political gains.

“People who perpetuate hate speech whether in government or opposition must be dealt with according to the law,” said Kabogo.

The Kiambu chief added that for the country to have a peaceful 2017 elections, hate mongers must be put at bay.

He stated that his government will support the national government to tackle the issue of hate speech among politicians ahead of the 2017 polls.

On Tuesday NCIC warned perpetrators of hate speech and incitement saying that their days are numbered.

NCIC Chairman Francis Ole Kaparo said the commission was monitoring all social media platforms to net hate mongers.
