The Coastal tourism sector has received a major boost after a cruise ship on Thursday docked at Mombasa port with 971 tourists from Europe on board. 

According to a local daily, MS Nautica, which is operated by Oceania Cruises, docked at the Coastal city of Zanzibar. More cruise ships are expected to arrive in the country between January and March. 

The America cruise normally docks at the port every January while on its way to Mahe, Seychelles. 

The passengers are expected to visit the Amboseli & Shimba Hills among other attractions among others areas during the 24 hour period the ship will in the country. 

In January 2017, the cruise ship arrived in the country with1, 050 visitors who included 654 passengers and 396 crew members.

The arrival of the ship comes at a time when the national and county governments are putting in place measures to promote tourism in the region. 

Hoteliers and owners of other businesses reaped big during the December festive season after both local and domestic tourists flocked the region. 

The investors in the region have also expressed optimism as 2018 kicks off.
