Former Kenya international Mc Donald Mariga holds the record of being the first and only Kenyan to win a treble with a European club.

He achieved the feat when playing for Internazionale in 2010.

The tough-tackling Kenyan won the Italian Serie A, the Coppa Italia as well as the European Champions league.

Although he was mostly used as a sub, he did make his mark when he played a part in the semis of both the Coppa Italia and The Champions League agains Fiorentina and Chelsea respectively.

During the historic season, Inter saw off Bayern Munich in the final of the Champions League.

Mariga made the bench for the match and was an unused substitute.

Inter coach, at the time, Jose Mourinho used him as a bit-part squad player but he did his best to prove his worth whenever he took to the pitch in their colours.

It will take a long time before another Kenyan achieves that feat while playing for a top European club.

Victor Wanyama's Totenham Hotspurs have been resurgent in the recent past and hopefully, he can achieve what his brother did with the London club.

England has more trophies to compete for and a club can still win a treble without even kicking a ball in the Champions League or the Europa League.

It was Mariga's hardwork and dedication that got him there.

Moving forward, it is a solemn prayer that more Kenyans get into European sides and emulate the towering midfielder.
