First Lady Margaret Kenyatta arrived at the African Union Commission Complex to attend the First Steering Committee meeting of the 20th Ordinary General Assembly of the Organisation of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA).
The current session of OAFLA is taking place for the period January 27th – 30th, 2018.The meeting was hosted by the current OAFLA President, the First Lady of Ethiopia, Her Excellency Roman Tesfaye, who was elected during the organisation’s 19th Ordinary General Assembly in Addis Ababa in July last year.
Her Excellency Roman Tesfaye is serving as OAFLA’s President for the period 2017 – 2019.At the Steering Committee, recommendations from the Technical Advisors meeting were presented for discussion as well as a joint Communique on Transforming Africa through prioritising children, adolescents and mothers in the fight against HIV, a joint call to action for member states of Africa.
Also present at the meeting was First Lady of Chad Mrs Hinda Deby Itno, and First Lady of Ghana First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
Other steering committee member countries include Zambia, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Central African Republic which were also represented by technical country teams.
AU First Ladies have played an active role in advocacy and leadership in their respective countries towards eliminating HIV infections by 2030.
