First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has called on youth to embrace the use of modern technology to boost development.
She also told youth to shun bad behaviours including drug abuse and alcohol consumption.
Speaking in Nyamira where she handed over a Mobile Clinic truck to the county, Ms Kenyatta said many youth were at risk of contracting the deadly HIV/Aids virus as a result of their recklessness.
She said technological advancement was the surest way of developing the nation.
“I want to urge the youth of this country to avoid risky behaviors that may lead them to contracting the HIV/Aids virus and rather embrace the mobile technology to alert our people on various issues like new farming methods to improve our livelihoods," she said.
"You are the future of our nation and we want you."
She was speaking at Nyamaiya Stadium.
She urged on the county government to ensure the farmers’ agricultural products are processed locally and added value.
This, she said would increase returns from agriculture.
“Nyamira has sufficient rainfall throughout the year and farming should be given a first priority as most of the residents majorly depend on it," the First Lady said.
"The county government should put measures in place to ensure that their products are locally processed and value added to them."
Governor John Nyagarama on the other hand said that mortality rate had reduced since he took office and said his government will continue to improve provision of healthcare services mostly to mothers and children.
