Kisii and Nyamira leaders today promised to mobilize votes from the two populous counties to ensure President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.
They said they were no longer in doubt that only the Jubilee Government under the leadership of President Kenyatta deserves their votes.
The leaders said the community can no longer trust their votes with NASA leaders who continue to insult Internal Security and National Government Coordination Minister Fred Matiang’i.
They described the minister as their “star” adding they could not give their votes to a coalition opposed to the Minister.
In Kisii, the Jubliee leaders included aspiring candidates Chris Obure (Governor), Charles Nyachae (Senator) , Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tongi, and aspiring women Representative Dorris Donya.
They promised to mobilize voters to deliver at least 60 per cent of the votes from the County towards the re-election of President Kenyatta.
They spoke in Kisii town where First Lady Margaret Kenyatta took her women empowerment message during a meeting convened by the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO).
She later took the same message to Nyamira County where she addressed thousands of jubilant women.
The Kisii leaders said unlike in the past, the community has this time round decided to be in the Government
Mr Nyachae said the women from Kisii had already made their decision to support the re-election of President Kenyatta.
“When Kisii women make a decision, you must know that it is a final one”, said Mr Nyachae.
Mr Obure said the Kisii community was fully satisfied with the leadership of President Kenyatta and what the Jubilee Government had done for the county including the appointment of senior Government officers including Matiang’I and Principal Secretary Susan Mochache.
“ We no longer have any doubts about who to vote for. A large percentage of Kisii people will vote for Uhuru Kenyatta”, said Obure.
MYWO national chairpertson Mrs Rahab Mwikali Muiu, National Secretary Elizabeth Mayieka (who comes from the region) and Kisii County chairperson Bethseba Sunaya all said they will mobilize MYWO members from Kisii and Nyamira to vote for President Kenyatta.
Mrs Muiu said some people seeking national office were not “leaders”. They lack the virtue of humility that President Kenyatta is known for.
The same message was repeated in Nyamira County where Jubilee aspiring candidates led by Walter Nyambati (Governor), Joseph Kiangoi (Senator), Shadrack Mose ( MP, National Assembly) and Jerusha Momanyi all said they will not repeat the mistakes of 2013 where they voted for the opposition.
“What happened in 2013 will not happen again. We shall deliver 70 per cent of the votes to Uhuru Kenyatta”, said Kiangoi
Mr Nyambati said Nyamira had decided they must be in the next Jubilee Government.
“We send you (First Lady) to President Kenyatta to re-assure him that he will get all our votes”, he said.
He said Nyamira people recognize the many projects that the Jubilee Government had initiated in Nyamira including in Health and Education
Speaking on the subject of women empowerment in Kisii and Nyamira the First Lady said she is determined to ensure that girls have the same opportunities as the boys.
She said the Government has started a special initiative that will support the girls to become doctors, engineers, scientists and lawyers.
“This initiative will enroll our girls into science, technology, engineering and mathematic subjects that our girls have not been encouraged to take up for many years”, she said
She promised to invest more time and resources to give the girls a chance to become leaders and give them jobs that they have not been able to access in the past.
