On Thursday, survivors of the Westgate shopping mall incident issued out messages of national forgiveness, peace, unity and gratitude as the country remembered those 67 lives that suffered from the terror attack three years ago.
First Lady Margeret Kenyatta attended the memorial service and stood with the survivors in solidarity.
“We need peace, forgiveness and gratitude. We forgive them so that we can move on”, said one of the survivors, Shamim Allu.
Allu was hit by a grenade and shot by five bullets in the back, hand and legs.
“Now my mission is to be a peace ambassador. We need peace in Kenya, " she stressed.
Dharmesh Vaya who lost his wife and sister-in-law during the attack also emphasized on forgiveness.
“It is difficult to forget, but let’s forgive them. We cannot be thinking of what happened for ever," said Dharmesh.
The First Lady stated that the memory of the Westgate attack comes with a lot of sadness but it is a reminder to Kenyans of the importance of solidarity against terror.
