Women in Nakuru have called on First lady Margaret Kenyatta to help improve maternity hospitals in the town. The women said most effort by Mrs Kenyatta’s Beyond Zero Campaign has been targeting rural areas while overlooking the town. “In the Provincial General Hospital there are so many women delivering without adequate care. We do not have enough nurses or support staff and we have to be rushed once the baby starts coming. It makes going to the mobile clinics to give birth much easier,” said Mildred Anyango, a resident. Caroline Jebet, also a resident, pointed out that the Beyond Zero campaign should also focus on setting clinics in the town and improving maternity care in major hospitals. “In town, the number of women who give birth is significantly high. We ask the First Lady to not only focus on rural areas but also urban centres,” she said. They also appealed to the first lady to ensure that there is adequate staff and medication in the hospitals before transferring their services elsewhere in villages.
