In unlikely change of events, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta had to adjust her itinerary, that had initially indicated that she would visit St Joseph's Catholic Church in Nyamira on Sunday.

Instead, the First Lady shifted her attention to the neighbouring Migori County, where she was hosted by area county boss Okoth Obado.

But at Nyamira, the Church was full to capacity and even area Governor John Nyagarama had to delay for the function contrary to what he had communicated before.

"We shall have dignitaries including members of the First family on Sunday. I urge county residents to join us at Nyamira Catholic," Nyagarama had said in a statement.

A close following of the fund drive could establish that the Kenyatta family, despite initial indications that would be represented, did not send a representative.

Moments after the fund drive, Nyagarama, who was flunked with MPs Jerusha Momanyi (Nyamira), Ben Momanyi (Borabu) and Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), would release a statement that did not feature the First family.

"I would like to thank leaders who joined me at Nyamira Catholic. It was a nice occasion and an opener to unity," he said.

Also expected in the function was Mama Ngina Kenyatta, who had reportedly confirmed her attendance.

The last time Mrs Kenyatta visited the county was in 2016 when she donated Mobile Clinic, a function  which was attended by several county leaders.
