First Lady Margaret Kenyatta Sunday returned to Kisii and Nyamira counties to reinforce her women economic empowerment programs that she promised two months ago.
She also took the opportunity to thank the residents of the two populous counties for supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta during the August 8, elections.
“ I have come here to say that I was truly overwhelmed and humbled by the support you gave Uhuru Kenyatta during the 8th August elections’, she said.
The First Lady appealed to the voters in the two counties to come out in even larger numbers and re-endorse President Kenyatta as their choice during the fresh elections on October 26.
“Uhuru Kenyatta and I are honored by your trust and support and we know that we can count on you once again to come out in even larger numbers on 26th October”, said the First Lady.
The First Lady’s basketful of empowerment initiatives contained water tanks to schools and women groups, shoes to 10 primary schools, hundreds of mosquito nets for pregnant and lactating mothers, tree and passion fruit seedlings that will touch the livelihoods of residents in 45 Wards of Kisii and another 20 in Nyamira.
Kisii High School, where the First Lady addressed hundreds of women in a meeting organized by Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO), was among the schools that received a 10,000-litres water tank alongside 10 primary schools in the region.
