First Lady Margaret Kenyatta today appealed directly to women in Luo Nyanza to choose continued progress of the country by voting for President Uhuru Kenyatta.
By supporting President Kenyatta’s second term in office, said the First Lady, the women will also be allowing her to continue and expand the work of her Beyond Zero initiative whose efforts has touched and changed the lives of millions of women across Kenya.
The First Lady appealed to the women of Kisumu, Migori, Siaya and Homabay to vote for President Kenyatta to allow the country continue with the current trajectory of transformation.
“I came to ask for your votes. To ask that on 8th August, you vote for progress, you vote for transformation-that you vote for Uhuru Kenyatta”, said the First Lady who addressed thousands of women meeting at Homabay High School grounds.
When they spoke, various leaders from the region especially Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) County chairpersons said they all recognize and appreciate the work of the First Lady under Beyond Zero.
“You have a very unique leadership character. We have never seen any other First Lady coming to Nyanza. We love you. May God bless you mum”, said MYWO chairperson from Siaya, who summed up the sentiments of the others speakers.
By a show of hands, the women agreed that they are not ready to replace the First Lady at State House.
MYWO national chairperson Mrs Rahab Mwikali Muiu also appealed to the women to vote with their conscience and peace of the country.
“Let us vote with our conscience. Le’s us vote peace for our country and our children”, pleaded Mrs Muiu.
Today’s meeting, convened by MYWO, was the 10th such event following similar meetings in Kitui, Kajiado, Isiolo, Samburu, Kisii, Nyamira, Kwale, Nakuru and Kakamega in recent weeks where the First Lady has addressed thousands of women, all expressing support for President Kenyatta.
The meeting also brings to 35 the number of counties the First Lady has so far covered with her message of women empowerment and where she has also drummed up support for President Kenyatta’s re-election.
She said her meetings were meant to give the women an opportunity to reflect , celebrate and acknowledge the impact of the Jubilee Government in the lives of Kenyans.
“We have seen the evidence with our eyes, we have experienced the impact in our daily lives as we travel on expanded road networks thus opening up trade opportunities and markets across Kenya”, she said.
The education of the Kenyan children is also guaranteed from next January under the Government’s free education program, said the First Lady.
“Let our children achieve their dreams to be doctors, engineers, lawyers and professors - they are our insurance for the future when we get older”, said the First Lady who also sent greetings and blessings from President Kenyatta.
In addition, the dignity of the elderly, single parents, widows and orphans will be guaranteed through the expanded social protection program, she added.
