The First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta has encouraged Kenyan medics to accord their patients' safety a priority in their daily duties.
Speaking during the launch of the KMPDB office complex building in Nairobi, Mrs. Kenyatta explained that a safe and dignified system of healthcare provision should respect the constitutionally granted rights of its citizens of which the sick are part and parcel. The First lady noted that patients will be confident and freer if the doctors attending to them stick to their professional provisions to keep patients' health information within the specified boundaries.
Mrs. Kenyatta further reiterated the need to ensure quality provision of medical and health services within the reach of the public, mentioning that her Beyond Zero initiative has successfully reached more women and children in the remotest parts of the country. In regard to maternal and child healthcare, the first lady said that much still needs to be undertaken as not all mothers have been reached.
She further cited the challenges encountered in provision of basic health services, calling all relevant governmental and non-governmental stakeholders to join hands to make the mission a success.
The Health CS, Cleopa Mailu thanked the first lady for her continued support for better and improved maternal health across the country.
