The first lady said that the government will prioritise provision of water in the pastoral counties which will save the residents from long journeys in search of the precious commodity.

Speaking to more than 5, 000 Maendeleo ya Wanawake association members from Marsabit and Samburu Counties at Allamano grounds in Maralal town, Kenyatta said the government will solve the water crisis that has subjected the residents to a lot of agony by providing clean water.

“I understand the long distances covered by our women and girls in search of domestic water but girls should not go for such long distances to fetch water,’’ she said.

Kenyatta also noted that pastoral girl child had been neglected in matters of education adding that girls should be encouraged to join schools since primary school education was declared free by the government.

Samburu nominated Senator Naisula Lesuuda and Women Representative Maison Leshoomo who were present welcomed the move saying it will ease water shortage among pastoralists.

Women Rep Leshoomo said if the residents will be able to access clean and safe water, they will improve their living standards and also address the food security issue.
