Kisii University College Dean of students Gladys Osoro has urged first years who joined College to use their Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loans wisely and desist from engaging in unscrupulous activities.
Speaking in her office on Tuesday, Osoro reiterated that first years have in the past misused the money and decided to raise the red flag to save them from a possible misuse of such funds.
“I have dealt with students before and I know what they are capable of. Many of them use the money in pubs and to do other negative activities, so there is a great need to remind them of how to wisely spend the money, which is meant to help them in their studies,” said Osoro adding that she does not want the students to forget the rightful purpose of the loan funds and utilise them improperly.
Osoro promised to be always advising to the students and always remind them not to misuse the money.
She said that most students especially those supported by the State miss end of semester exams due to failure to complete school fee which is a mandatory requirement in the institution.
“I have dealt with many cases of students who get aid from HELB and are unable to sit for their exams simply because they, in some way misused their money. That is why I advise them to pay school fee and use the remaining for sustainance,” added Osoro.
This comes few days after the Higher Education Loans Board promised to give first years across the county loans they applied for.
