The raised pod is made from timbers and a thick nylon bag.The nylon bag prevent outflow of water from the pod while the timbers stack in a rectangle shape act as support to the cage like pod.

Posting on Proud Farmers Facebook Page on Monday, Charles Musyoka, a fish farmer in the area said that it is more easier to bringup fingerlings in the modern pod than in the older ones.

"The modern raised pod is more of advantage especially now that the rains are much. Our fingerlings are safe and sound and no excess water can wash them away," he posted.

Kiambu and neigbouring Machakos county are well known for commercial fish farming.

The county governments have of late been supporting these farmers with raw materials in pod construction as well providing fingerlings to committed farmers.

These farmers later sell their fish to nearby markets in Machakos town, Thika and Kitui county.
