Search operation is on along Lake Victoria at Kaloka beach in Seme constituency after a crocodile attacked a fisherman early this morning.
The crocodile dragged the fisherman into the water on Tuesday morning as his colleagues tried in vain to save him from the wild animal.
East Seme ward representative Aggrey Ogosi said crocodile attacks are ever increasing along the lake. Ogosi said the animal has killed and maimed many in the area.
“Our people are ever in agonising situation, several people are nursing deep wounds, other have died,” he said.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu, the MCA blamed Kenya Wildlife Service for doing little to contain the rogue crocodile.
He called for the fencing of Lake Victoria to prevent human-wildlife conflict in the area.
“For several years, this has happened the KWS has not done much our county government is equally not helping us. We need immediate help to cushion our people from this danger,” he said.
Ogosi said hippopotamus always graze on the farms destroying crops along the lake exposing locals to severe hunger.
The attack comes barely a day after the local area MP Dr James Nyikal called for speedy compensation of wildlife victims.
