Body of a 30-year-old man who drowned in Masinga dam, Machakos County on Monday has been retrieved.
The fisherman had gone missing since Monday after his boat capsized while in a fishing expedition with a friend.
Confirming the incident, Katulye chief Josphat Ngumbi said the deceased's body was retrieved on Saturday along the dam's banks after days of intense search by residents.
Ngumbi said the deceased was in company of one of his friends who survived the ordeal after swimming to safety
"The other guy luckily survived, he swam to safety," Ngumbi said.
He addressed the press at the scene.
Ngumbi said rescue operations were launched after the survivor raised alarm about the incident.
However, rescue operations proved futile as the body was nowhere to be seen only to surface later after days of search.
Police moved the body to Matuu Mediance mortuary for preservation.
"The body was seen floating days after the incident occurred, it was moved to Matuu Mediance mortuary," Ngumbi said.
Ngumbi said since cases of drowning are rampant, locals should desist from crossing swollen rivers or sending young kids to fetch water.
