President Uhuru Kenyatta has been called upon to save fishermen from Budalang'i  gainst persistent harassment by Uganda marine security officers."

According to the fishermen, officers patrolling the Ugandan side of Lake Victoria arbitrarily seize their fishing gear.

"We have complained for a long time, asking the Busia government to consult with their Ugandan counterparts to resolve the issue," said their leader Robert Anema in an interview with the Star.

Anema said their pleas have always fallen on deaf ears and that they are fined more than Sh55,000 "for trespassing into Uganda."

"The money is for every boat that the officers feel has crossed the border. The confiscated fish and gear are never released until the money is paid."

They have called on the Head of  State to initiate talks with his Ugandan colleagues and find a solution to the matter.
