There was drama at the ACK Mombasa Diocese on Friday after outing Bishop Julius Kalu presided over his last service.
Hell broke loose when Jonson Mwazera of St Andrew Soweto confronted and beat up members of the church who are protesting against the election Alphonce Mwaro to take over the outgoing bishop.
According to the disgruntled clerics and other brethren, the election of the new bishop was not conducted in a free and fair manner. Mwazera had also attacked a group of journalists as they attempted to cover the event.
Earlier on, the court had thrown a petition seeking for the stoppage of a ceremony to consecrate the new bishop into power.
In his ruling senior principal magistrate, Martin Rabera said that the event can take place on Sunday at Mbaraki Sports Ground as planned unless the church agrees on another date. Mwazera threw punches and requested the members who were protesting to shed more light on the persons who have sent them to commit what he termed as a barbaric act in the House of the Lord.
Other members of the church attempted to stop him by saying, "Mwazera wacha fujo [stop the mess]. Leave them, “he said, as quoted by The Star. Attempts by Rev Richard Otieno of St John Church to calm Mwazera proved futile when he insisted that the members to inform him about the person they were working for.
