Five people were on Monday arraigned before a Mombasa Court to answer to charges of allegedly selling SGR train tickets without authorisation from the Kenya Railways Corporation.
Four of the five accused persons were linked to the sale of Madaraka Express train tickets after they were arrested by police officers on Friday at Mahogany Investment Company in Mtwapa, Kilifi County.The suspects, Hilder Wanjala, Jimmy Muruingi, Richard Githinji and Moureen Gatwiri were charged with committing the offence on diverse dates between June 1 and July 14.The court heard that the four, together with others not before court were not authorised as employees or agents of Kenya Railways to engage in selling of the tickets.The fifth suspect, Jabes Ochieng, was charged separately for allegedly selling the tickets without authority at Miritini railway terminus in Mombasa on July 13.The five, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges before Mombasa senior resident magistrate Edigah Kagoni.Magistrate Kagoni ordered the accused persons to be released on a cash bail of Sh10, 000 each.The case will be heard on July 31.
