Five contestants have expressed interest in the Kabete parliamentary seat left vacant by the late George Muchai.
This is days after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced the date for Kabete Constituency by-election, which will be on May 4. Party primaries should be completed by April 18.
The contestants who will be seeking to be elected through the Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) ticket include former area MP Lewis Nguyai, James Wanjohi, Wanjiku Kinuthia, Charles Arahuka (Gitaru Ward MCA) and John Mburu.
Wanjiku, who is the only woman so far has expressed optimism that JAP nominations will be free and fair.
"We are hoping that nominations will be done fairly and be a good example that party nominations can be done without quarrels," said Wanjiku on Sunday at ACK Church in Wangige.
Wanjiku added that the late immediate former MP George Muchai's family is supporting her candidature.
"I was a close confidant of Muchai and his family can attest to that. I have their blessings," she said.
Wanjiku said that there is a need for Kabete people to elect a youthful, visionary leader who will take Kabete to the next stage.
