The uncertainty surrounding the presidential repeat polls of October 26 continued on Monday, after two more cases were filed in the High Court.
This brings to five the number of cases in the court, which are set to have a major impact on the decision to hold the elections.
One of the petitions wants the IEBC to declare president Uhuru Kenyatta president elect if he will be the only sole candidate in the October polls.
The other petition wants the electoral body to carry out the elections, whether or not Raila Odinga or any other candidate for that matter withdraws from the polls.
Harun Mwau has also moved to court with a petition to stop the polls, saying the IEBC is not ready for the polls since they have not met most of the provisions as guided by the Supreme Court during the August ruling that nullified the elections.
In another case, which was lodged by the Uzalendo Institute of Leadership and Democracy, the institution seeks the court to offer a direction of what will happen after Raila Odinga, whose case at the Supreme Court led to the nullification of President Kenyatta’s win in Augsut withdrew from the race.
Activist Okiya Omtatah has filed a fresh petition arguing that the environment is not conducive for the repeat election and is seeking the formation of a caretaker government after October 26.
With the election date that was announced by IEBC 10 days away, the country is at crossroads of what will happen, and whether or not the elections will be held as earlier planned.
