Highly placed family sources have intimated that the veteran politician has been confined in ICU at Nairobi hospital for a few days now.

Undeniably, Nyachae remains one of the most respected politician from entire Gusii region, who is credited to have run and did well in presidential elections.

Born in a Royal family of paramount chief Musa Nyandusi, Nyachae went to Kisii Government African School before quitting in 1949 to take a position of District Clerk. He would later move to London 8 years later to study Public Administration.

At the independent Kenya, Nyachae will go down the history books for serving in every rank of provincial administration. For 14 years since 1964, Nyachae served the ranks of District Officer, District Commissioner and Provincial Commissioner before his appointment as Chief Secretary.

In Gusii history, Nyachae was the second person from Kisii ethnic to contest presidency after George Anyona. He finished third in 2002 elections after Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta.

As a family man, Nyachae, the father to lawyer Charles Nyachae, is polygamous having married 5 wives with who he sired 20 children with.

Further, as a politician since 1992, Nyachae served as MP for Nyaribari Chache until 2007. In between, he served as minister for Agriculture, Finance and Environment. Interestingly, he has only been a member of two parties; KANU and Ford People.
