The country could be quiet now but that does not mean the drama is over.
After the long Christmas holiday, the following people are set to come back burning to decorate newsrooms in 2018.
Anne Waiguru
After she was pushed out of the Devolution CS office and stayed in the dark for two years, Anne Waiguru made a dramatic comeback, clinching the Kirinyaga governor seat at the expense of political heavyweights like Martha Karua. She made history as one of the first three females to occupy the governor's office.
Again she was to be elected co-chair to the Council of Governors. Next year is set open bigger doors, challenges and platforms for her. Rumour has it that she is beeing groomed to be DP William Ruto's runningmate in 2022.
William Ruto
The election is over. What is left is the beginning of president Uhuru Kenyatta's succession campaign for 2022.
With Ruto set as the main player in the coming election, he is expected to start rebranding himself from a deputy to the figure of a senior leader. THis will mean dropping a few friends here and there and gaining some. He will begin fights with other Jubilee figures who might not be satisfied with him at the top. He will also begin to convince the Kalenjin community that he is the best between himself and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who seems to have a silver platter. 2018 will be full of drama for him.
Ali Hassan Joho
Joho will be remembered for being the first politician since independence to take a candid stance and admonish a sitting president. 'Sultan' has kept Jubilee on toes and its leaders always have to walk under his shadow whenever they visit the coastal region.
It is understood that Joho is preparing to launch his 2022 presidential bid. The battle will begin in 2018 after the dust of August 8 settles and DP William Ruto starts making maneouvres across the country.
Raila Odinga
Raila is not done with Jubilee yet. He could be quiet for now, but that is what everyone else is after taking the December break to meet kin and friends. But with the swearing-in agenda still on course, Raila is set to ruffle a few more feathers in Jubilee because he calls it over.
Uhuru Kenyatta
He just began his second term and it remains to be seen whether he will take a softer stand on national matters as was President Kibaki in his second term, or whether he will continue being the tough talking son of Jomo Kenyatta.
Key on the agenda for 2018 will be to help William Ruto begin a successful succession campaign ahead of 2022.
But before that, there is the issue of NASA swearing themselves in. Will the president be tough on the opposition? Will he allow Raila to go ahead with the 'crime' whose punishment is death by hanging?
