Five police officers have died and two left injured, after the car they were traveling in stepped a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) along Bodhai-Ijara road in Garissa County.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at 1pm, with the officers said to have been on regular patrols before they were ambushed.
The police officers were from Bothai police station, with the two who were injured forced to take cover at nearby bushes as they sought for reinforcement.
The injured and the deceased were later airlifted to Nairobi.
This comes after a series of Attacks mainly targeting police vehicles by use of IED'S over past few weeks.
North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh said that a combined unit of police officers from Hulugho have been sent to pursue the gang.
