Breast pain is mostly experienced by women due to various reasons. Sometimes the pain can be experienced on one breast or both and it can be mild or severe. Although women get worried that the pain could be a sign of breast cancer, experts say that in most cases breast pain is not a sign of cancer and should not really worry you.

But why do your boobs pain? Below are some reasons that may be the cause of your breast pain;

Menstruation

The hormonal fluctuations that occur during menstruation can lead to breast pain. The estrogen produced during menstruation makes your breasts stretch and enlarge hence the pain. The pain, however, disappears once the menstruation period is over.

Lumpy breast

Some women have lumpy breast or what is known as fibrocystic breast tissue. The hard tissue can be painful but that too should not be a cause to worry. Lumpy breasts are prone to hormonal changes and may, therefore, be painful during menstruation.

Excessive workouts

Just like any other part of your body, workouts strain the muscles supporting your breasts and they may end up hurting.

The wrong bra

If you put on an unsupportive bra, the flapping of your breasts may lead to pain. A fitting bra ensures your breasts are held in position every time whether you are working out or going about your daily activities.

You are pregnant

During the first trimester, pregnant women experience breast pain. If you notice that both of your breasts are painful, it may be a sign that you could be pregnant.

Although breast pain should not be a cause to raise an alarm, if the pain persists, it is always advisable to seek medication.
