The Independent Electoral Commission (IEBC) selection panel has shortlisted five candidates for the position of chairperson to succeed Issack Hassan.

13 applicants applied for the post after it was declared vacant.

Those shortlisted include; David Malakwen from Nandi county, Margaret Shava (Kiambu county), Roseline Odede (Kisumu), Lawyer John Mutakha (Kakamega) and David Mereka (Murang'a).

The Bishop Benedett Musundi-led panel said interviews for the shortlisted, will be conducted in public on November 28-29, 2016 at the County Hall building along Parliament road.

After the interviews, two names of the shortlisted candidates will be submitted to President Uhuru Kenyatta who will then foward the names to parliament for vetting and pick one name.

President will also receive nine names from the panel to nominate six commissioners.

Seven former ambassadors and two IEBC directors are among 765 applicants in the race for the six positions of IEBC commissioners.
