They have been in custody since June 25 and pleaded not guilty to the offence. Their lawyer, Job Obure, asked the court to consider using the Children's Act since the five are still students awaiting to sit their KCSE exams this year.

“I am pleading with the court to release them so that they can do their practical which have since started," Obure said.

He also asked the court to have the accused released on bond as they await full hearing of their case.

Obure said parents of the accused are willing to avail them in court when they area required. But the prosecution denied the plea saying the accused need to remain in custody as the offense is serious.
