Police in Suneka town on Sunday afternoon impounded 1500 litres of illicit brew in Nyambunwa and St peters area arresting five people in connection.
According to the OCS Gesonso police station Daniel Ayiera, police recovered 420 litres of chang`aa at Nyambunwa and over 1000 litres at St Peters area. All the suspects apprehended were women
Ayiera said police would continue with the crackdown in the area on Monday morning to recover more illicit brew that is being sold to the area residents.
"We will not stop until we have eradicated this vice completely. Those who still think that they will get away with risking lives of innocent and productive youth have been warned," he said.
He said the suspects were being held at Gesonso police station and would be arraigned in court to answer charges of handling illicit brew. The brew was packed in 19 drums and 15 plastic containers. During the raid, police also recovered brewing equipment.
He appealed to residents to continue working with the police in combating crime and illicit brew in the area, saying the information given would be handled in confidence.
