Five suspected robbers were on Wednesday arrested in connection with the theft of electronic goods after being captured on CCTV in Ruaka, Kiambu County.
Confirming the arrest at Kiambu Police Station, the County Police Commander (CPC), James Mugera said the highly sophisticated criminals broke into an apartment in Ruaka Estate on December 28, 2015 and stole an unspecified number of electronic goods.
Unaware that their activities were being captured by CCTV cameras, the robbers carted away electronic goods in two cars after breaking into various apartments using improvised metallic master keys.
Mugera said the CCTV footage helped detectives to piece together the gangs’ movements within the gated apartment, the vehicle registration numbers and their faces.
The CPC said some electronic goods have been identified whereas other owners are yet to come to the station to claim them.
“I appeal to members of the public who lost their items to come forward and help in the prosecution of the case against the suspects,” he said.
Among the items recovered from the suspects were a digital Television set, two vacuum cleaners, two microwave ovens, a guitar and a safe among other items.
Mugera has put thieves in Kiambu on notice, adding that their days are numbered.
“The theft syndicate thwarted today is a major break-through for the police service,” he said.
