Police in Kiambu have on Monday arrested five suspects in connection with the murder of a student from Kenya Institute of Science and Technology (KiST) in Kirigiti.
The student was brutally murdered and his body dumped in Kirigiti last week.
The mysterious death of the student led to students’ demonstrations towards the killings which they claimed was not the first.
Speaking to journalists in his office, Kiambu OCPD SSP Stephen Ng'etich said that the five were arrested between Monday and Tuesday in different parts of Kiambu Sub County.
He said among the five, one is a boda boda opeartor who helped the criminals by ferrying them.
“The five will be arraigned in court soon. However more are yet to be arrested because we have very crucial leads. These are people who knew the student and they were not after theft but his life," said Ng'etich.
He explained that during the arrest, they recovered the phone of the deceased, his laptop and crude weapons such as machetes in one of the suspect's house.
The police boss also appealed to the public to cooperate with security agencies and give information that would help them with more arrests.
